My Skincare Routine | Summer 2017

I don’t know about you guys, but I used to always try out new skincare products. When I was in high school I got really bad acne, it was all on my jaw area, and pretty cystic. Ever since I’ve been determined to find the perfect products for my skin. I have combination skin, leaning more on the oily side, with enlarged pores that can also be sensitive and acne-prone. I actually switch up my products between the morning and night, so the routine isn’t as abrasive, and I really think it’s made a huge difference!

From the second I wake up, I immediately go into the bathroom to wash my face. Sometimes I’ll go downstairs and have breakfast, but most of the time it’s the first thing that I do. It really helps me get into the routine of it. If I waited in the morning, I would definitely forget. I highly recommend doing this so you get into the groove of it all, your skin will thank you!

When it comes to a cleanser, I use the Mario Badescu Botanical Facial Gel. This is for combination-to-oily skin, and it’s super refreshing. It doesn’t foam like the one I use at night, but it’s gentle and leaves the skin feeling balanced. I don’t feel the need to use a super heavy face wash in the morning since I wash my face right before I go to bed.

As for toner, I always want to make sure I use one that will help target acne and any problem areas I may have. I recently switched to this Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner recently and it has done wonders for my skin. This toner is 2% glycolic acid and helps target pigmentation as well as fine lines. As I’m just 21-years-old, I don’t use any super-concentrated anti-aging products, but I think this is a good start.

I also recently started using a serum for my face, which targets my enlarged pores and helps mattify my skin. This is the Origins Original Skin Serum, and it really helps with not just the pores, but also leaves your skin feeling super glowy. I used to stay away from these ‘glowy’ products because I thought my face would look too oily. But, I was pleasantly surprised with this product.

As for moisturizer, I use the Origins GinZing Moisturizer. This is a light-weight moisturizer and even helps to energize the skin! I feel much more awake after applying this as the final step to my skincare.

At nighttime, I switch up most of my skincare products. Since I tend to wear makeup most days, I want to make sure I use a cleanser that will deep clean my pores, etc. This Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, which I use along with my Clarisonic, has literally changed my skin. Now, I know what you might think, you’re only supposed to use this two to three times a week, but I use it every night and have never had a problem. I still hydrate my skin, etc. as I usually would and I don’t feel like my skin is overcompensating or too dull, etc. I also follow it up with the same toner from the morning, theΒ Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner.

During the nighttime, I try to use a heavier moisturizer since I’m not putting any makeup over it and just sleeping. This is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, and it is super hydrating without being too hydrating (if that makes sense). I make sure to apply just a thin layer!

Whenever I do have acne spots, I make sure to use this Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I have recommended this to every friend of mine who has asked for recommendations about acne spot treatments! All it takes is a cotton swab to dip it in and dot it over your spots. By the morning, they’re dried out and definitely less noticeable. If you try any product from this post, this is definitely it!

The final product at night is a lip treatment. My lips have always been dry and chapped, unfortunately. I found this Nugg Natural Hydrating Lip Mask at Target and purchased it on a whim. You can leave it on for just twenty minutes at a time if you’re in a rush, but I like to leave it on overnight to give my lips that extra-hydrating treatment. Since I started using it my lips have been drastically better!

What is your current skincare routine for the summertime? Have you tried any of these products yourself?

Yes!! It’s awesome. I hate when I use a moisturizer and it immediately breaks me out…

I’ve been thinking about doing a similar blog post! I’ve heard really great things about Mario Badescu products…my old roommate/good friend who was always used top of the line skincare and makeup swore by it. I’ve been using a few different products on a consistent basis, but my newest addition is Skin Laundry’s Wrinkle Release Repair Treatment with Retinol and I really love it!

You should do it!! πŸ™‚ Ooohh I’ll have to look at those! I know I should start using at least some anti-aging… glad you like it!

I love reading and hearing about others skincare routines! I too, switch up my products depending on the season and between day/night. I’m currently using the following: Rodan+Fields Umblemish Wash, Lotion P50 1970 Toner, R+F Hydra-serum (only at night), R+F Unblemish Acne Treatment, and R+F Overnight Restorative Repair Cream. Also, twice a week I incorporate the Origins Charcoal Mask!!! This combination of products is currently working wonders on my skin!!!!

Loving the blog. I’ll be sure to check back often! πŸ™‚

It definitely is!! My mom swore by hers and she handed her old one down to me (of course I changed the heads on it) but I finally got a new one and am obsessed with it!

I’ve been a bit undecided about getting a clarisonic, I’ve heard mixed reviews?! I really want to try origins too, they seem like a great brand xx

    • 06.12.2017 / 1:34 pm

There are definitely mixed reviews, but it’s really helped my skin! I don’t use it twice a day like some people to make sure my skin doesn’t get too aggravated!

My favorite mario badescu cleanser is the enzyme one, the green one, you should definitely try it out its very gentle and does not foam up. If i am not mistaken it has a bit of salicylic acid that helps with breakouts.
As for origins, i still need to test out some of their products I heard so many good reviews on them.

    • 06.12.2017 / 1:34 pm

Ohhh I will definitely try that one out after my botanical one runs out! Thank you!! πŸ™‚
